No, they don't. The progress on your upgrading buildings will freeze while you are in vacation mode and resume when you come out of it.

Same for army.Army training will be paused and continues again when v mode is over.
    • vacation mode

      • nothing builds
      • no gold is earned
      • taverns consume no wine and population is frozen
      • you cannot be attacked

basically your freezing your account so that you dont have to tend to it while gone.
    • Exactly what masterchief said , short and clear - your account is frozen when you go for v-mode.Everything is simply stopped , when you return back it continues.
And of course , you cannot be attacked.

Before going into v-mode , check if there are any transport fleet movements. If does , wait for them to arrive. If you just ignore them , they will be automatically returned back so when you return you won't remember what and where you were about to send those resources...

BTW sorry for posting here , but can someone tell me how long player can be in v-mode before (s)he becomes inactive ?
    • its based on the age of the account. check here for more details:

Change for new inactives - 0.4.4 feature

EDIT: oops sorry thats inacitves lol. vacation mode lasts for a max of 30 days (min 3 days) after which you are taken out of vacation mode automatically. after that you go inactive at the rate described in the link above

      I think min is 2 days , not 3 ?(
