Biggest question I have is with the barbarians. If I've attacked them and brought them up to lv 15, will they retain that level with the update or be reset? If they're not reset then frankly it's a bunch of BS IMO. Why? Since before when attacking them there was no need to consider if they'd retaliate and for me personally, I like to go navy so the idea that I'll have to actually build an army just to keep the status quo whereas before I just had to worry about other players and safe levels is BS to me.

    • Kaleg, they will drop in lvl over time, or you can pay them tribute.

IMO, not exactly bringing anything new to the game or the genre. On the other hand... omg new content in Ikariam??? This hasn't happened in years and it's a rehash of what's already a part of the game. Good job devs. :havecookie:

    • i can only see two reasons for the barb part of this update. one is it allows higher levels so more resources that can be looted which could be helpful. BUT, the main reason i see this as a problem is depending on how often the barbs attack said players then it will take a LOT of resources out of the game if they pillage players like players pillage them. because if someone hasnt been active in a week but hasnt got attacked by a player and the AI attacks said player the barbs could take a great deal of resources, which means those resources disappear and players are not able to take them and grow.

Now if the only roll the barbs play is attacking players military then i dont see much harm in them. but i am willing to bet the reason for them is to take resources out of the game thus making players grow slower or waste a lot more time trying to find resources.

I dont like the new update. :grumble: :dash:

    • From level 10 the barbarians can also retaliate. They can attack a player's town with the ‘Pillage’ mission or occupy luxury resource deposits. Occupied deposits produce fewer resources for the player.

So if they pillage they will actually take resources , or if they occupy a mine it only affects the player who attacked them

Seems to me this is another mini game within the game like the pirate game

Attack them and they can hit you back
Leave them alone and apparently all will be status quo

Certainly not something to increase community interest....

    • yes i read that. but if you have a player that has attacked them repeatedly and now they are at lest say level 30 and that player has 500k goods in their town when they quit playing, not inactive just quit logging in. well when the barbs retaliate they can take those goods, up to safe limit im sure. but even if safe limit is 100k thats 400k of resources that get taken out of the game. now everyone wont attack them but some will. but what do i know its just a little right.

    • Did you know that this kind of suggestion has been popular in many communites? Many players have asked for something like this (especially big ones) since they don't have much to do - all buildings have big levels, no active fights around and so on (I don't even talk abut small players for whome barbarians is a great field to learn fighting and gain resources). This is a place where you can just fight for fun, for testing some strategies, for gaining resources etc...

But yeah - I haven't seen any version which wouldn't be voted down by part of players. :)

For once I agree with you. No one, not even GF (or especially GF, depending on your point of view) can please everyone.

If the barbarians wake up the players who have never experienced the military side of the game, then I suppose this could be a good thing. On the other hand if they act like some of the more aggressive players who pillage more than mine resources, that could be a problem. I highly doubt that's what's in store, though.

I agree that the barbarians may be a good fight for the inexperienced player. who may want to try some ideas about fighting or learn the mechanics of the game.
Once you have experience though you can always try your hand against a real life player, especially now with the option of a gauntlet war.
That at lest can provide you with fighting a real player who may counter what you are doing or be able to help you learn the fighting system better without the threat of an all out war by hitting someone in an alliance, something that can be more useful to your game than hitting AI barbarians.
Face it..will the barbarians be waving, know how to eliminate you loons or score big against your mortars.

To me this barbarian option is just a way for idle players to isolate themselves even further. Yeah the barbarians can attack but will they be able to empty your towns, cut off your wine, or give you the experience of being in a war. Especially since this cuts out the whole naval aspect of the game

Once you toy with the levels you will know exactly what you can get away with and how much resources you can get.

Well according to the explanation the barbarians will only get aggressive once you cross a certain level and will probably increase somewhat as the levels go up...so you are really controlling the barbarian response by your attacks. If your more aggressive so are they. So the inert player will have inert barbarians, the aggressive player may have more retaliation made against him. so it will be the player who determines the level.

Bottom line for me is, I would like to see more options for interactions against real players. Ideas that make people want to get more involved with the players around them rather than an AI opponent to keep them busy for twenty minutes as they move wine, or up their tavern to level 35

    • Anyone who has problems with this is simply unhappy with their own life. Ponder on that a bit.

If you don't like PVE play, don't play PVE.

If you think the barbarians might beat you, don't upset the barbarians (this is totally your decision whether to engage or not)

Barbarian retaliation? Non-issue. Simply don't store loot in your aggressive town until the barbarians cool off.

Come on people, this isn't rocket science.

EDIT: This is Gameforge we're talking about. They can barely make animated birds that don't interfere with gameplay; do you really think the artificial intelligence for the barbarians will be something to worry about?

yea i can see that but as mentioned before only after level 10. so if after 2 attacks they go down a level as long as they are not at level 30 then i guess it wont be to bad. i am curious though as to how often they attack and a military question, ill get to that in a second.

haha i agree with that to, i dont disagree with all of it but like a good debate about things of this nature also

back to the military part for a second. when fighting someone where you have balloons or they do, if you use a gyro air raid to get rid of their balloons as soon as the fight is over do they zip back to 20 balloons or if you killed 10 of them does it take the time to rebuild. an example if i attack current barb camps with 200 barbs but only kill 150 before i fail the pillage they zip back up to 200 instantly. seeing how they are somewhat making barbs more player style, with the exception of blocking luxury goods, then shouldnt the barbs have a standard wait time to rebuild troops lost in battle, i know my hops dont do that.
On that note i know i can have hops building before i sent what i have in to die but that also cuts income cost for the cost of citizens to make said hops. in the end im assuming they will just zip back to full capacity, the barb camps, but just throwing something out to hear some feedback on.

I have also wondered about a way to wave steam giants and hops like fire ships with steam rams. guess this would be a way to figure that out.

surely this wasnt directed to me as i stated my thought about player 1 attacking barb camps then quitting the game with goods that player 2 might be interested in pillaging but with the issue being barbs taking the goods out of the game through pillage before player 2 realizes player 1 has quit.

    • I have been battling the barabrians on the test server

I have been pillaging the new barbarian option on the test server. The list of their possible units includes balloons, aerial fighters, catapults, and their own version of steam giants. They restated as a level 1 barbarian but I have gotten them up to level 15 and they attacked back. They were unsuccessful because the troops they sent were not powerful enough to overcome the units I had in the town. I seem to be averaging about 1000 resources in pillage for each level of their village. Plus a nice amount of gold. Don't know how fast they go down in level, I have not given them a breather. I plan to attack them up to level 50 and keep pulling in those nice resources.

The results of the battles do not generate OFFENSIVE or DEFENSIVE points

In other words, I have been playing the new option and I find it interesting and good. I suggest those naysayers wait till they actually are able to try this before condemning it.

    • Reading what David Munter posted... I think I like it.

It's good that new players can do a lil fighting without ending steam rolled by a multi's main. Seems should also allow them to grow a lil quicker if active.

PS: your nick makes me think:

    • If you have 2 towns on the same island and you reach Barbarian Village Level 10, but only attach the Barbarians from one of the towns.

Is there a chance the barbarians will also attach the second town on the same island after level 10?
